“Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age.” – The Dead
The Corn Exchange and Smock Alley Theatre presented Dubliners by James Joyce, an opportunity to experience as part of the Bloomsday Festival 2022. Dubliners offered an enduring portrayal of the city – a mirror in which the people of Dublin, as Joyce once wrote, could take “one good look at themselves”. The stories, sharply ironic, beautiful, despairing and mysterious cohere into what Joyce called “a chapter of the moral history of my country”. Sound and original score by Lara Gallagher.
Directed by: Annie Ryan
Design: Sarah Bacon
Lighting: Eoin Whinning
Costume: Sarah Foley
Composition: Lara Gallagher.

‘Where are you from? is a common question, but its connotations and answers are often complicated. Through confession, movement and interviews with their father, Choy-Ping Clarke-Ng 吳彩萍 explores this, as someone who speaks only English, likes to dance and is looking for home.’
"The production fizzes with talent… the stage thrillingly transforms from a neatly mysterious apartment into a wild and sometimes inhospitable nightlife.”
- Chris McCormack, Musings In Intermissions
